The summer Olympics that will be happening in London later this year is the sporting spectacle of the year, and the amount of logistics to be figured out is huge. Monstrous, even. Having said that, it would also be crucial to ensure that data center engineers are available around the clock and on-site to make sure everything concerning computers and data of the event will run like clockwork without any hiccups. London-based Podtime will be offering on-site sleep pods to such data center engineers, giving room for engineering staff to relax, power nap or stay overnight, being right beside the servers which will be under their watchful eye.
According to Interxion’s UK Manging Director, Greg McCulloch, “Due to the nature of our business we need to be ready for all eventualities. While we are excited to have the Olympics in London we need to be sure that we can continue to offer the highest level of resilience to our customers. The installation of the sleeping pods is another great example of Interxion putting resilience and uptime at the forefront of everything it does.”
These modular pods can be stacked, where the standard issue model will be equipped with a single mattress or vinyl covered foam mattress, coupled with storage shelves, a mirror to help you shave, LED lights and a lockable door for that added bit of privacy. Of course, prices start from £1,375 upwards, and if you want additional creature comforts like a luggage compartment, leather mattress covers, digital radios, a TV and DVD player, that would mean forking out more money. [Press Release]

Of all of the cities in Europe, London is one city that must not be missed. The only way to properly experience the city the way natives see it is to choose one of the many houses to rent. Explore everything that London has to offer and walk home to a spacious, inexpensive flat.
Houses to rent have all of the convenience of staying in a hotel. The flats will always be immaculate, beds made with soft linens and bathrooms stocked with luxurious bath products. Renting from the flat owners makes it easier to modify your dates if necessary.
Houses to rent are all privately owned, making your visit to the United Kingdom feel more like staying with a friend than renting commerical space. Once you plan your itinerary, you will have a good idea of which district is most conveniently located. You’ll get a list of the trendiest bars and restaurants, most unique shops and memorable landmarks near flats for rent in London. Having access to the locals’ experience make it possible to find inexpensive, authentic pubs and cafes.
Without being native to England, it’s hard to know which houses to rent. A district may be described as being in London, however, transportation to some of London’s suburbs can be rather time consuming. Walking to fine dining, theatres and museums is easy from London’s best neighborhoods. The best places for flats for rent in London are Kensingon and its surrounding districts, Chelsea and Notting Hill. Any post code for these areas will have a single digit number following the letters. If the postal code has two digits, it will be further from central London. Wouldn’t you rather spend your time visiting local sights instead of traveling on the tube?
Sightseeing in London is a great choice for a trip for American families. Without worrying about a foreign language, children are able to understand more that is going on around them. Attending theatre, exploring museums and watching the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace are steeped in tradition and rich opportunities to learn about an older culture. At the end of the day, deciding on one of the houses to rent will make it easy to put them to bed and relax in privacy without needing to splurge on a hotel suite.
Business travelers can also benefit from houses to rent in England. Trips lasting for more than a few days become exhausting when limited to restaurant fare and the cramped hotel atmosphere. Staying in a privately owned home is more restful, reducing stress and increasing productivity. Many employees find that staying within a short walk of the local bar makes their trip pass more quickly.Employers also benefit from serviced flats, since short term rentals save money over having to sign leases, purchase furniture or perform any maintenance work.
Regardless of whether you are going to the United Kingdon for a vacation or for work, passing over a commercial hotel chain in favor of privately owned houses for rent will make you travels more relaxing and cost less money. Considering that traveling abroad can be dear, wouldn’t the most logical choice be to think about flats to rent in London?

The details in any city are ones that you might not see at first. Luckily the designer in me always notices the signage in any city.
I was raised (& live now) in a city that can be a little gruff. New York does not explain or make apologies for itself. It especially does not do this in the signage around the city. London, on the other hand is very polite in everything that it does. It also has an old charm in the way signage is written.
See below for some examples.

Notice the way bicycles is spelled.

Notice the camera symbol is almost from 100 years ago.

The most polite construction sign I have ever seen.

Had to read this sign twice.

Not sure what this was about but I thought it was funny.

A polite rebel.

The most well known poster or ad for London was “Keep Calm and Carry On”. CLICK HERE to read about it.

Typically English clips & pics wanted!
Posted on April 7, 2012 in News
In June this year Simon Townshend will be releasing a video single entitled ‘Typically English’. He would like the video for the song to celebrate everything ‘Typically English’ in this Jubilee year.
So why are we telling you?
We would like you, his fans and nearest and dearest to capture on video what ‘Typically English’ means to you, everything from Red London buses, fish and chips, punks, mods, piers, scooters, flags right through to your Nan having a cup of tea in the sun and everything inbetween. All you need is a camera that can shoot in HD and film what ‘Typically English’ means to you, or what it has ever meant to you. We ‘d also love to include your footage from the hot summer of 76 or the Silver Jubilee of 77 or the mod revival of 79 or any other nostalgia trip you would care to share for inclusion.
Send us the footage and we will do the rest.
But be quick- deadline is the end of April.

With an opening reception set for this Thursday, April 5th at the David B. Smith Gallery, we thought we would bring your attention to some new works from Christina Empedocles. A Unified Theory of Everything sees the SF-based artist continue to explore a wide range of subjects in the form of printed matter like old comics, movie posters, and nature periodicals. By rendering these in crumpled and folded forms, she adds a depth and extra layers of complexity to her two dimensional works.
More preview images after the jump…

Discuss Christina Empedocles here.
